“The father message I have sent unto thee
Ponder, Ponder, ponder over this message
The faithful message I have sent unto thee
Ponder, ponder, ponder over this message
A message of hope and of peace
The path of truth, the path of life
The path of truth, is an illumination
Ponder, ponder, ponder over this message”- CCC Hymn 679 stanza 1
Among the cities that Apostle Paul visited in his missionary work was Berea. Other cities include Thessalonica, Athens, Corinth, and Antioch among others. However, the brethren in Berea were noted for some things, which we are to learn from that were not observed in other cities visited. The features include:
i. Open-mindedness to receive the Word: The brethren in Berea did not assume that they were perfect or have reached a particular height in the knowledge of God. Instead, they were receptive to the Word of God, and did not lock the gates of their heart.
ii. Great eagerness for the Word: The brethren at no point in time stayed back at home when it was time for bible study. They were anxious to hear the Word of God. Their promptness and punctuality can never be questioned. They daily panted for the Word.
iii. Personal study of the Word: Aside from the two features earlier cited, the Berea brethren did not stop where Paul ended in the church. On getting home, they will do an individual research of the scripture to verify all what Paul taught them. They studied the bible more at home than in the church.
Beloved, how open minded are you to the Word or have you become rigid to some doctrines? Are you usually placed under compulsion when it is time for Bible study? How much personal study time do you have? Is your Bible only opened when in the church? May God help you to make amends where necessary in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Prayer point: Oh Lord, grant me the grace to be open minded to receive your Word with great eagerness so that I can give myself to a personal study of your Word in Jesus' Name. Amen.
